Vegan Food in Amsterdam

Vegan Food in Amsterdam Terra-Zen I just visited Terra Zen again in Dec 2019 and had my favourite item on their menu, the famed Crispy Roti Wrap. The ‘crispy’ is fried home pressed tofu. It was superb, the nuggets were slightly crispy on the outside, the veggies, cooked to perfection, and bursts of flavor throughout….

Indonesian Restaurants in Amsterdam

Indonesian food in Amsterdam My aim with this post is not to try and cover all Indonesian restaurants in all areas but to give a cross section from fancy dining to take away that I have tried a few times and think are great. With the restaurants I always try the ‘rice table’. This is…

Best Savoury Snacks in Amsterdam Vet – Best bread rolls in Amsterdam Vet is a great quality butcher in the heart of Amsterdam’s old town on the Zeeedijk. It sounds odd in English… vet. Actually it also sounds a bit odd in Dutch too as it means ‘fat’ but it is just a family name….

Cool Squat Restaurants In Amsterdam

COOL SQUAT RESTAURANTS IN AMSTERDAM Squat restaurants have a special place in Amsterdam. Many buildings were squatted in the 70s, 80s, and 90s because they were empty and abandoned. The communities that squatted the buildings often run an informal restaurant, all done by volunteers and not for profit. DE PEPER De Peper is a lovely example of one of these and you can see the philosophy behind the place in the photo above. The food is vegan and organic. For the starter and main course you pay between 7€ and 10€, depending on what you can afford, you decide. Dessert costs 1.50€ and beers are 2.50€. When I went the food was delicious, the starter was a white miso and light vegetable soup and the main course was a seitan and pumpkin pie with white beans and mushrooms and salad….

Loetje Centraal Station €€

Brilliant to find that the quality of steak is the same here as at the original Cafe Loetje near the museums.  Loetje Centraal Station could not be easier to find, it is in the pretty white building directly opposite the main entrance to Central Station, about 20 meters walk.  There is a wide long terrace…

Cafe Loetje €€

I’m on a quest to find the best steak in Amsterdam and Cafe Loetje was recommended to me by my 85-year-old Dutch teacher who lives nearby. It was indeed excellent. Of the 2 steaks pictured, the big chunk (whole and sliced open) is the large portion and the plate with 2 pieces is the smaller…

Cafe De Klos – Best ribs & chicken – €€

Hell yeah. De Klos has 2 things I am addicted to… Smoked chicken and UNSMOKED ribs (in my opinion the smoked ribs are way too salty). You get half a smoked chicken, warm and a salad & bread for about 18€. The unsmoked ribs come with salad and bread also. You get 3 slabs of…
