TULIPS, PANCAKES, A WINDMILL...

Oh, and more tulips

KEUKENHOF TULIP TOUR

KEUKENHOF GARDENS, PANCAKE LUNCH, & A WINDMILL IN HAARLEM

We’ll get to Keukenhof Gardens bright and early and you’ll have three hours to explore it on your own. After that, we’ll drive the backroads near Keukenhof to find working tulip fields and take photos (though this might not be possible at the very start or very end of the season). We’ll dine a la Dutch (we just made that up) on proper pancakes, get a tour of a windmill in Haarlem and take a little walk through the medieval town centre.

Why take this tour
Here is a brief outline of the Keukenhof tulip tour:
  • This Dutch day out lasts 8-9 hours!
  • 8 people max, that’s all we can fit in the minivan.
  • Admission to Keukenhof gardens is included, and you’ll spend three hours exploring there.
  • Lunch at a proper Dutch pancake house is included
  • From the gardens to lunch we drive country roads past working tulip farms.
  • When the tulip fields are in bloom we stop and will take photos of you in the fields.
  • We guide you through the inside of a windmill and explain how it works.
  • A visit the medieval city of Haarlem for a short walking through pretty streets and afternoon coffee.
  • You will be guided by Mark or Rory, two of Amsterdam’s best-reviewed tour guides.
Here’s a no so brief outline of the Keukenhof tulip tour:

In an 8 seater minivan, we’ll bring you first to Keukenhof, the Garden of Europe which is, astonishingly, only open for just eight weeks of the year, and is home to seven million blooming flowers. We leave Amsterdam by 8.30 am which is early enough to see the morning dew on the tulips (and daffodils and hyacinths and roses and…).

You’ll have three hours to explore the gardens at your leisure before we whisk you off the beaten track along back roads past tulip farms and fields. When there are fields in bloom we find them and stop for photos where we will try our best to take perfect postcard shots of you in the fields surrounded by the flowers.

A hearty pancake lunch awaits at a quaint restaurant on the edge of a nature reserve, frequented mainly by locals – echte Nederlanders!   We’ll dine à la Dutch (we just invented that phrase!)

Onward to the gorgeous medieval city of Haarlem that was the centre of the infamous Tulip Mania of the 1600s. We’ll walk through small lanes and courtyards to a classic Dutch windmill, and will guide you through the inside of it and explain in detail how it runs.

Finally, we’ll make our way to the top of the windmill and gaze out over Haarlem.

And then back to Amsterdam, this tour is a pretty full day our but we hope it helps to tick quite a few things off your bucket list!

Age & Height Restrictions

Children up to the age of 12 are required to have child seats.  If the child is 1.35 metres / 4 feet and 5 inches or taller, the age restriction does not apply.  We can arrange booster seats, but not baby seats, you must contact us about this before booking otherwise we won’t have them on board.

There is no child discount as a seat is still a seat and we only have 8 off them!

It is possible to arrange an electric mobility scooter at Keukenhof Gardens but this you need to do directly with them. This is a great way to get around the gardens if you don’t fancy being on your feet for that long.

Cancellation & refunds policy

We’ve pondered a lot about this and because of the costs involved and planning, we can’t refund last minute cancellation so here is the deal:

If you cancel:

  • more than 2 weeks in advance then you immediately receive a full refund.
  • between 1 and 2 weeks in advance and immediately receive a 50% refund.  You get the other 50% as well if we can resell your places.
  • during the last week then there is no automatic refund but you get a full refund if we can sell your places

All refunds above are less any bank charges if there are any.

Minimum number of participants

This tour requires 2 people booked in to run. If you book a single place and nobody else books the tour will be cancelled and you will be given a full refund.
