Private Keukenhof Tulip Tour
Private Keukenhof Tulip Tour
See the Tulips in Bloom
Join me, Mark, for a Private Keukenhof Tulip Tour and a breathtaking day at Keukenhof Gardens, home to millions of vibrant flowers and the world’s largest tulip displays. If you’re visiting in April, this is a must-see, and our tour is the perfect way to experience the magic of tulip season in Holland.
Hotel Pickup & Drop-off
Start your day stress-free with my door-to-door service. I’ll pick you up from your hotel in Amsterdam and make sure you’re comfortable from the moment we set off. Thankfully we are generally going against the traffic and the trip to the gardens only takes about 45 minutes. During the journey we can talk about all sorts of topics related to Amsterdam and the Netherlands.
Early Morning Start
We leave by 9 am to arrive at Keukenhof Gardens early. This gives you the chance to witness the morning dew on tulips, daffodils, hyacinths, and more. It gives us a little time to explore before the gardens before they get busier. Luckily, as the gardens are so huge, they absorb large numbers of people well and even on the busiest days, areas feel relaxed.
Guided Tulip Garden Tour
Spending up to three hours exploring the gardens. The gardens are 80 acres in size and they grow 7 millions bulbs a year, so there is too much to see everything. This is where a guide is so useful! I’ll show you the most stunning displays and point out what’s looking best that day. Along the way, I’ll share fascinating stories about tulips, from their origins to the present day cultivation and eveything in between. I will help you find the best spots for photos. I love taking photos and making sure that you have a good stock of holiday memories is one of my aims for the day.
The Windmill at Keukenhof Gardens
We’ll stop by the Keukenhof windmill for a closer look. I’ll give you a short history overview of how and why windmills becamse so important here. They really were a vital element in driving the Dutch economy. Following that I’ll give you a detailed explanation of how windmills work, complete with diagrams. Windmills were not just for millling, but for puymping water, grinding all sorts of things, crushing chalk, sawing timber just to name a few of thier uses. It’s a great opportunity to learn more about this iconic symbol of the Netherlands.
Tulip Fields
After Keukenhof Gardens, we’ll visit picturesque tulip fields that stretch all the way to the horizon. Earlier in the season there will also be daffodil and hyacinth fields in a wonderful array of colours. All these fields are perfect for capturing those classic Dutch photos. You’ll get to see the tulips up close and enjoy the heady scent of hyacinths.
Dutch Pancake Lunch
For a truly local experience, we can stop for a traditional pancake lunch at a cozy restaurant. The place has been in the same family since the 1970s and is quaint and quirky and has to be seen to be believed. It’s like a magical house in the woods. It’s tucked away on the edge of a nature reserve, providing a peaceful break before we head back. Over lunch we will talk about the famous tulip bubble in the 1630 when the country went a bit mad. This is also a great time for any other questions you have about Amsterdam, from restaurants to markets to museums and history!
Return to Amsterdam
By the end of the day, you’ll have seen the best of Keukenhof and Holland’s famous tulip fields. It’s a chance to tick off several bucket-list items and leave with unforgettable memories – and lots of photos!
