Breakfast in Amsterdam
UPDATED JANUARY 2025 – One of the things I love about travel is eating out and I prefer it if each meal is a great meal. I also tend to do a lot of walking on tours as well as just exploring on my own so breakfast is a really important meal for me. I try places for breakfast in Amsterdam all the time and below are what I think are the best places, scattered around the city so there should hopefully always be somewhere near you. You will notice by my photos below that am drawn to Eggs Royale – poached egg on salmon with Hollondaise sauce as I don’mt make this at home. Croissant, fruit and muesli is not really my thing in the morning but all the places have that kind of breakfast too. I’ve included a menu link where possible.
Box Sociaal
Eggs Benny & The Jetts on the left above and the Sweet Hot Chick on the right. Both were excellent. The Sweet Hot Chick(en) was superb, but more for brunch than breakfast. I’ve been back since, the food is great! 2 branches, one in the Jordaan and one in the Plantage. Box Sociaal Brunch Menu.
Bakers and Roasters
I visited again in Jan 2025 and everything was great. Pictured are the Eggs Royale, of course. Then the Eggs Benny with the crispoy bacon, yum yum. Lastly the Navajo Eggs: Pulled BBQ Pork, avocade, mango salsa & chipotle cream with paoched eggs and crispy toast! The last was definitely more of a brunch thing than a breakfast thing! Greenwoods
Greenwoods has been around for ages, there are 2 branches, one at Singel 103 and the other at Keizersgracht 465. They are both super and you do need to book to get a table. Their breakfasts are very tasty and there’s a wide selection. Here is Greenwoods 2024 winter menu – many lovely things to choose from!
The Lobby – Hotel V
The Eggs Royale on a sort of brioche bun was delicious. The Croque Madame was also good – pretty substantial, basically a toasted ham and cheese sandwich with a freied egg on top. The Lobby Breakfast Menu. There are 2 branches of The Lobby in Hotel V, one near Dam Sqyuare half way down the street called ‘Nes’ and the other is near the National Bank at Fizeaustraat. I tried the one at Nes. The menu here isn’t as varied or intersting as the others above, which is why I have it last. But it is central and a pleasant environment and the food is fine.
