Blijburg Beach

Yes, a beach, just outside Amsterdam, about 15 minutes on tram 26 from Central Station and then a 15 minute walk or 5 minutes if you take your bike on the tram (only 2 bikes allowed on a tram at one time).  Blijburg is on a reclaimed and relatively recently developed island in the big lake near Amsterdam that used to be the Zuiderzee.  OK it’s not quite Thailand but you get to lie down on sand with not too many stones in it and swim in shallow and greenish water that is actually pretty clean.  The bar has a friendly relaxed vibe and the service is quick and efficient so get those beers rolling!  There is a great selection of beer actually.. La Chouffe, Brand,Wiekse Witte etc and tasty snack food.

Directions… take tram 26 to Ijburg and get off at the last stop.  Walk in the same direction that the tram was going but go straight ahead when the tram lines turn to the left.  Carry on until you get to the fresh fruit supermarket on your right hand side.  Turn right and walk until you get to a path on your left leading to the beach, you will see it in the distance.

There are also parties on different nights, check out their link below (Dutch, sorry)…
