Fabulous pizza in Amsterdam! I know it sounds exaggerated but last week I had the best pizza I have ever had in my life at Da Portare Via. It was perfect: thin and crispy base all the way to the centre that stayed crispy until the last bite! I had the TARTUFI CON COPPA DI PARMA… tomato, marscapone, black truffel, parma ham & parmesan… a spectacular blend of flavours, €13 for a large one.
Every day before opening they spend and hour and a half warming the base of the pizza oven by burning logs in the oven. Then the ash is brushed away and a fire kept burning on the one side. The secret to the perfect pizza is all about air circulation in the oven. Whodathunkit!
The branch at Leliegracht 34 is small with a couple of counter seats inside and a bench outside on a very beautiful canal. I generally try and avoid typical lunch or dinner times and go mid afternoon to avoid waiting in a line. Open daily 11h00 to 22h00 (closes at 21h00 from 1 Nov to 31 March)
The branch in Lange Niezel in the Red Light District is a late night favourite, they close at midnight so a perfect after Red Light Tour pizza stop! This place has plenty of tables. Open daily from 11h00 to 00h00.
