Roes (Rust) is a vibrant, off the beaten track, local squat-style style bar / cafe / beach and a great place for whiling away a sunny afternoon.  When the weather really warms up this is a great place for swimming, attached to the blue crane is a rope for swinging over the water and letting go.  It is cosy and welcoming inside as well and is actually a good, if slightly quiet winter hangout.  Inside and outside are unusual sculptures and the industrial past of the venue is emphasised in a really cool way and fused with comfortable Chesterfield style battered leather sofas.

You buy drinks and snacks there supermarket style, you go past a line of fridges and take what you want to the bar counter and pay there.   Warm food you get from the red bus which is the kitchen and serving counter.

Besides being a café is also a creative haven for film, theater, festivals, markets and DJs where innovation and inspiration always predominate.  Check out the ‘Programma’ on their website, link below.

To find Roest is not the easiest thing in the world.  You need to go past long decrepit looking warehouses until you turn a corner and see a.. red double-decker London bus!  It’s really best to cycle there but you can reach it by public transport and a walk the other end.
