I get it now, why people fall so in love with Paris. I didn’t before as I had been there twice and had a lousy time, getting lost and catching the wrong metro lines and walking for miles not knowing what the hell I was doing. Martin’s city walking tour cured me of all that confusion. He starts the tour with an extended orientation session around a map that he has colour coded to show different areas and attractions, like every food and antique market worth going to. Lealu and I both got our own map to take home and help with the next few days. He walked our little group all over the place and kept us entertained with stories about, not only history, but tidbits and good practical advice, like the back door into the Lourve that most people don’t know about and is a really good way of not standing in a long line. The tour also took in a super chocolatiere and a fabulous champagne shop where I stocked up on 2 bottled, a blanc de blanc and a vintage which didn’t last long. They were so cheap compared to the equivalent that I can buy here. It kills me that I can’t pop out and grab a bottle to knock back every Friday.
Pepe gave the eBike tour that complimented the walking tour perfectly as we could cover so much ground. I’d never had the pleasure of riding an eBile before. Wow. It is like having a strong wind behind you the whole time and after a few hours of cycling you feel as fresh as when you started. Pepe could have stepped out of a poster advertising Paris with his cute hat and waxed curly moustache. His historical anecdotes were entertaining and interesting and well researched and really make us appreciate not only the beauty but the incredibly important history of Paris and its effect on modern Europe.
We also got immediate follow up emails with lists of suggestions of things to do and the meal recommendations were so so useful. There are just so many places to choose from in Paris. What martin does, when he finds a good restaurant, is try it 3 times and if it is consistently good, he recommends it. He also offers a lifetime service of backup help if you have been on a tour with him so if you have a problem or query during your stay, you just pop him a WhatsApp message and he answers it!
