I really enjoyed this place. The concept is quirky, 3 styles of dining or ‘ambiances’ as they call them: The cheapest, Mams Keuken Tafel (Mum’s kitchen table) which I went for. Then there is a tasting menu option, the Belgian Baroquefor €33.50pp , and a fine dinging 4 course option, the Mrs Bubbles for €27.50pp . The tables are dressed accordingly, from simple to fancy, see pics.. All 3 options are reasonably priced, my Kitchen table choice was 3 delicious courses for 20 euros with an option of beer or wine pairings for each course.
I loved the food, I had a smoked chicken breast salad with an unusual, light and fresh tasting soya red pepper vinaigrette. Main course was superbly tender pork belly on creamy mash with slightly crunchy carrot and parsnip and perfect gravy. The dessert was wonderful, a sour cherry pannacotta with a light basil syrup, absolutely perfectly pared with Kriek Boom cherry beer.
I see that the main criticism on Tripadvisor about the place is the sometimes slowness of service. I went at a quiet time, about 17h30 so didn’t experience this. I will try their tasting menu soon at a busier time and see how justified this criticism is or not. They are usually fully booked From Thursday through Sunday so plan ahead if you want to try this place, or just try your luck early like I did (on a Sunday). The only language I heard spoken at other tables when I was there was Dutch which I definitely took as a good sign. I can’t wait to go back!
