Hoppy Days are here. This is a fairly new bar in Amsterdam specialising in Italian craft beers and is run by Lorenzo, the most welcoming barman in Amsterdam. He brings over varying selections from Italy so there are often new flavours to try. The beer on tap is all the same price: €4 for an Amsterdam vaasje (300ml).
The food was spectacular. The photos don’t do it justice unfortunately. I was using my mini-tablet and they didn’t come out well – a good excuse to go back and have more! I ordered a T-bone steak or ‘Tagliata fiorentina’ that came sliced off the bone with a delicious basil and parsley sauce on the side. The tenderness and taste were awesome. The pork chop was tender and juicy and also delicious. Two burgers passed to another table and looked superb and I overheard those people raving about them after the meal saying they were the best ever so, yet another reason to go back! NEWSFLASH JUNE 2015 – I just tried the burgers and they were excellent and the fries brilliant too – see pics :o))
Lorenzo gave excellent advice for beer pairings with the food and over the next hour or so we went on a little beer adventure, trying 6 different types from light and flowery, to hoppy, to spicy to dark and herby. It was brilliant.
There are a few rules at Hoppy Days like no politics or religion, no mixed drinks, no on-the-rocks (whiskey must be drunk neat!). There is no coca cola or fanta in the house but there is an organic cola and lemonade. You get tap water for free but served with a look f disgust! They are football mad so this is a good place to watch a match in the bar area and they have an occasional dj playing moody stuff.
Open Wednesday to Sunday, the kitchen is open until midnight – late for Amsterdam. There is a restaurant in the front of the building and the bar at the back with tables where you can also eat
