People often email me and ask where to have dinner nearby before coming on my Red Light District tour. Well eventually I can confidently answer that question… Cote Ouest – a bijou French restaurant in an incredibly pretty little lane right behind the New Church on Dam Square. I’ve walked past a thousand times and never walked in and am so glad I did.
My starter, see pics above, was a light and fresh Ceviche of Cod… many bursts of flavour: radish, coriander, red grapefruit, red onion, beetroot , perfectly matched by a glass of unwooded chardonnay. My main… 2 plump and juicy lamb chops, a slice of potato bake, seasonal white asparagus with freshly whisked Hollandaise sauce and a glass of syrah was perfect for me although some might go for white. Also pictured are the salmon with asparagus and the duck leg which was tender juicy, dark and delicious and I will definitely be going back for.
The service was warm and competent. They don’t rush you through your meal here, even a single diner like me. If you are coming on a night time tour with me and dine here first and intend to have 2 courses then I suggest starting early at 17h30 when they open for supper and let them know at what time you need to be at Beursplein.
Price-wise you’re looking at €10 for a starter and €20 for a main course.
There is a lunch speical, 3 courses for 25 euros.
You can also order individual items, the Croque Monsieur is 7 euros and absolutely deliciuos. Salads cost about 10 euros, again, wonderul. I have very happily tried almost everything at this restaurant and keep going back for more!
